AUBADE

herald of the dawn.ㅤㅤ

ㅤprelude :ㅤ "Ere yet they blind the stars, & the wild team which love thee, yearning for thy yoke, arise / & shake the darkness from their loosen’d manes, & beat the twilight into flakes of fire."
. . . . . .
The unending tale of a storm given flesh, a gale in mortal form, Hydaelyn's champion;
a blade, reforged to be HUMAN.

Sol's reputation precedes her. The hero spoken of in hushed whispers throughout the realm is a force to be reckoned with, skilled in any manner of weaponry, martial or arcane, that she picks up. If these facts weren't intimidating, her chilly demeanor may just be, albeit thawed from her adventures. Serious, awkward in the arts of conversation, hesitant with affection, her inexpressive face hides her heart that burns with a light rivaling the sun.

ㅤ❝ㅤ mighty the sword may be . . . it is not the ruler of us. we are ruled by heart.
by soul. break my blades, crush my bones, & you still won't match me.

✴︎ All-Rounder

Though trained in melee weapons, throughout her travels, Sol has picked up & mastered numerous different arts. In the thick of battle, she can man the front lines, fall back & manage the small fry, or heal her allies; her preferred jobs are Paladin, Dark Knight, Dragoon, Viper, & White Mage.

✴︎ The Echo /
Hydaelyn's Blessing

Being one of Hydaelyn's champions, Sol can transcend the boundaries of the soul, resonating with others, while shielded from the tempering of Primals & similar magicks. This resonance also allows her to communicate with others regardless of language. Her Echo manifests as visions of the past.

✴︎ Soul of
the Traveller

Fragmented as her soul is, the powers of her Ancient counterpart persist. With her very nature as the Traveller, Sol can summon heroes from this realm & beyond to aid her in battle, just as her predecessor did before her. Those summoned would describe it as "being engulfed in sunlight."

✴︎ Once-Forest
Guardian

Due to her upbringing & training as a Wood-warder, Sol is particularly well-adjusted in wilderness environments. She is extremely self-sufficient in manners of survival & carries a high tolerance for pain and cold. Her leporine ears & her nose are particularly tuned to small shifts in weather or ambient aether.

✴︎ biography

Born under the sun of the winter solstice, settled in the foothills of the Skatay Range, Sol was given the name Skýla. Her mother, then known as Yyrs, was a newcomer from a neighboring village. Her father, Kamri, was also quite formidable, and Sol took after him in looks and prowess, if not demeanor. Her parents' love was fierce but short-lived, for not long after Sol was born, Kamri died, by all accounts falling victim to a terrible blizzard.Yyrs was heartbroken. Sol was the only child she shared with Kamri, and in her grief, she threw herself into caring for her youngest, favoring her over her older children. This became more apparent as Sol proved to be a special child, in temperament, intelligence, and ability. She was effectively mute throughout her early childhood, only speaking with her mother occasionally and older Viera even more rarely. Her silence was unsettling to most of her elders, but she learned to read and write very early, and showed interest in village tasks even quicker, trying to help her mother or her mother's friends. Her interactions with other children either ended awkwardly, or were rebuffed, and Sol only reacted by returning to her favorite storybooks and conversing with imaginary friends. Her dream was to become a hero, the sort she read about in books. Yyrs doted on her, and though many found her unsettling (she did have a habit of staring, after all), they couldn't deny she had her strengths. She slowly came out of her shell, and with her added words came a revelation: she had visions of the past, knowledge she shouldn't know. It was an early manifestation of her Echo abilities, and the village viewed it as a blessing.Yet when Sol was around eleven, her life drastically changed. Her mother died in a hunt gone wrong, leaving her orphaned...or so she was told. The truth, only learned decades later, was that Yyrs abandoned the Green Word, faking her death in the process in a twisted attempt to protect her daughters from ridicule, later taking on the name Lisbet. Young Sol took this hard, as Lisbet was the only one who understood and loved her eccentricities. Put into the care of her oldest sister, who was like a stranger, she barely functioned in the years that followed due to her grief. Much of her promising behavior seemed to drain, disappointing her peers and elders. With her thirteenth nameday, her body began to change; she'd presented as male. Even back then, without the words to voice it, she felt a stark disconnect with her changing body. But to her, who had little support left, there was nothing to be done. She suffered in silence until the males returned in spring, her new mentor with them. She came of age around her thirteenth nameday, and presented as male. Even then, she felt a particular disconnect with her gender and body. But being young and not knowing how to voice it, she suffered in silence until the males returned, her new mentor with them. Sol's mentor was a man named Sains, who was one of Lisbet's lovers before her "death," and fathered several of Sol's older sisters. Her mother asked him months before she "died" to care for Sol if anything happened to her—in part because she trusted Sains deeply, and in part because he and Sol's father were friends before his death. While it can be argued he began with good intentions, his methods were anything but just.Wood-warder training was already difficult enough; those too weak or too unwilling to learn how to survive the frigid forest alone died, either to monsters or the elements. However, Sains proved to be a cruel, unforgiving mentor. He berated, insulted, yelled and hit Sol for the smallest slights. Mistakes weren't allowed, yet conversely, he treated Sol's fast learning just as harshly, his only praise begrudging. He dehumanized her, training her to be a weapon of the Wood, and punished her for showing emotion. He excused his abuse as making her stronger, and Sol, who was steadily growing stronger through duress, had no reason to doubt him. In particular, one of his 'tests' involved throwing Sol from a clifftop into icy waters below—which she lived through, albeit with the help of the Echo. This was only one of his many cruel actions.Sol endured this treatment for five years, from thirteen to seventeen, slowly killing any weakness. The day soon came that the Echo revealed a terrible truth: her father's death was no accident. Sains orchestrated it out of jealousy, so he might have Lisbet to himself.Devastated by this revelation, she confronted her mentor. After some back and forth, he confessed to the crime. When Sol insulted him, he attacked her. She, in turn, slashed him in self-defense, and he ran to tend to his wounds. With all of his lessons swirling in her head, she reached the only conclusion: her mentor, the man who had forged her anew, needed to die. With cold calculation, she planned it all out over the next five months. She prayed to the forests to bring it to fruition, and to forgive her cruelty. Sol lured her mentor into a cave, took her axe, and chopped him into pieces. She disguised it as a monster catching them off guard, even breaking her own leg to add to the charade as she fled the scene, and for her perceived determination, she was deemed strong enough to become a Wood-warder.The following decades passed in a blur, in part due to her long lifespan, but more due to the discomfort Sol felt living in the Wood and in her body. By all accounts, she was one of the best Wood-warders, rivaling her seniors more than thrice her age; she was standoffish, icy, and most considered her perfect for the solitude required of her. Sol, meanwhile, felt a constant, bone-deep loneliness, the skin-crawling discomfort of her dysphoria, and a sense of failure whenever she lost one of her proteges. Her encounters during mating season were brief and never long enough for her lonely heart; though she laid with many over her years, the two loves of her life were fraught. Farah was one of her first lovers, but would never reciprocate, her own love lost many years ago. Vera cared for her, but Sol, heartbroken from Farah's rejection, never allowed herself to open up. She sired multiple daughters, but as a weapon, a kinslayer, she shied away from even the barest affection, seeing herself as unworthy. She didn't even know what she wanted (companionship, understanding, family), thus sat in quiet misery. Her youngest child with Vera, Ingvi, presented as male, and Vera, trusting Sol's abilities, asked her to mentor their son and protect him. It was the first time she truly connected with one of her children. Ingvi was a bright boy, though perhaps a bit too earnest. The pair grew incredibly close, and Sol had high hopes that he would complete his training and thrive.Alas, there was no accounting for Dalamud. Though distance saved their side of the realm from much of the devastation, in the wake of the Calamity, the forest was ravaged by earthquakes, the sky red as flame. In the resulting chaos, not only was Ingvi killed (trying to save someone, no less), but her daughter Astrid as well, alongside Farah. Many lives were lost that day, and Sol was once again drowning in her grief. She withdrew, holding vigil over the resting places of both family and neighbor for days on ending, not stopping to eat, drink, or rest.Vera, in her own grief, couldn't forgive Sol for breaking her promise and not being able to save their son. The two of them parted on poor terms. And her daughters, Thea and Silfa, who had lost their mother...Sol found the distance in between them insurmountable, unable to bring them comfort. Her despair mounted, reminders of the meager comforts she'd lost surrounding her; the forest was suffocating. Rather than announce her departure, she hiked up the mountains, found a tall cliff, and threw herself from it, intending to die.It should have been the end. Somehow, it wasn't.Rather than dying from her attempt, Sol awoke safe on the ground, her mind fuzzy and the ozone-taste of aether on her tongue. To her utter shock, her body had changed in the time between her would-be death and her new life, her feminine form closer to what she'd always envied. Try as she might, she couldn't remember what happened in those seconds between, only the faintest memory of a voice calling out to her.Uncertain of her second chance at life, she took a different path, leaving the Wood. It took more time than she liked to retrain her body after the miraculous change, but eventually, she worked as a sellsword in Othard to make ends meet. With time, she chose a new name: Sol Silvaine. And when she heard tell of opportunities in Limsa Lominsa, the sort of work available to adventurers, she boarded the boat with axe in hand...

✴︎ The Unending Journey

default FFXIV verse—extremely flexible, but will steer towards post-endwalker to current expansions. Sol is the realm-famous warrior of light. hydaelyn's champion, eikon-slayer, savior of ishgard, liberator of ala mhigo & doma, the warrior of darkness, walker of the end. all titles she wears with pride.
always busy in some manner, even with no enemies to fight.

✴︎ TALES FROM THE SHADOWS

non-wol ffxiv verse—still one of hydaelyn's chosen, blessed with the echo, & scion of the seventh dawn. her role is similar to her work as a sellsword in othard; she plays the role of muscle, less of a tactician. call on her & point her towards the enemy, & there she goes. a quieter, but no less thrilling life, it would be a mistake to underestimate her . . . lest you want an arrow in your sternum.

✴︎ WANDERER OF THE DAWN

azem verse—heavy wip ancient verse for azem, fourteenth seat of the convocation, true name eos, the herald of dawn. a frequent headache to the strict convocation, her mischievous tendencies hid a fearsome fighter & adventurer. she persists through the shards of her unyielding soul, but perhaps even her closest companions knew little of its depths.

✴︎ FORGIVEN MARTYR

lightwarden verse—a tragic ending to the efforts of the first. though she fought to the very last, accursed light consumed sol. thus, the mighty & terrible lightwarden was unleashed: astraeus. lost to the light, clinging to heroism, believing that the first would be saved once it makes its final journey:
releasing Eden from its slumber, restoring the Flood of Light.

✴︎ THE COSMIC PERSPECTIVE

dissidia verse—heavy wip, still in progress.

✴︎ WARRIOR, UPROOTED

general crossover verse—tale as old as time: a concerning convergence of aether that, once investigated, brings sol to a strange new world. perhaps it's not-so-different from etheirys, or perhaps it's disorientingly different. it doesn't matter; she is a warrior, & she will adapt then uncover what led her astray.
(intended as a default mv-verse, unless a specific crossover is made.)
